Description

The "double" refers to a variation of an instrumental or vocal piece. In Johann Sebastian Bach's Partita No. 1 for solo violin, there are four. They refer, respectively, to the Allemande, the Courante, the Sarabande, and the Bourrée that precede them. What a joy to observe and hear Bach's genius unfold in this discipline of composition! By commissioning Karol Beffa to compose a series of four doubles, in addition to those composed by Bach, the Conservatoire de Suresnes wished to and imagined a passing of the baton, a way of doubling the beauty. Thank you to him for taking on this challenge with such talent, allowing violinists, young and old, to redouble their pleasure. Bruno GARLEJ
