Description

Trois rêveries opus 111 n° 2 offers three stylistic exercises (Debussy, Ireland and Grieg) and Petite Suite opus 111 n° 3 is composed of five short pieces, the first four of which exist for solo piano in Billaudot editions; the fifth, Humoresque, was added in 2015 at the request of Frédéric Chatoux, director of the collection devoted to the flute, to close the cycle, in a playful way by paying homage to the antics of the cats I had adopted when I lived in the countryside, in Walloon Brabant. All these pieces form a whole dear to my heart, because they illustrate the already very assured first steps in tonal and modal writing for a composer of fifteen or sixteen years. They already make room for lyricism and counterpoint in a rather demanding way and I have revisited them many times in order to refine the writing as much as possible. I am delighted and honored that the premiere of my Petite Suite took place in Bangkok by two professional musicians. This is the first time that a world premiere of my music has taken place in this country, which, like all Asian countries, seems to be increasingly focused on Western classical music. Nicolas Bacri
