Description
Concerto-Ballata was composed when Ihor Shamo completed his studies at the Kyiv Conservatory. This pictorial work, with its mysterious and even elusive form, is constructed from motifs (some of which are Ukrainian folk songs) that the composer juxtaposes, varies, develops, and sometimes blends to create new melodies that recur throughout the work, creating a sense of unity. Beginning with very simple, direct, even raw music, which gradually becomes more complex through rich harmony and melody, one can feel a moving, almost naive sincerity. Ihor Shamo prioritizes his instinct, with a youthful fervor full of passion and commitment, in a spontaneous dramatic discourse.
