Description
Wood, a natural element, is what gives strings their unique resonance. It's also thanks to the wood of the bow that the strings vibrate. De vif bois pays homage to this material by exploring the different possibilities of playing with the sound of wood.
The piece begins with a gesture, where the mixture of pizz and the sliding of the bow on the string gives a woody and original sound. Starting from this gesture, a play of textures and timbres resonates on the different strings, in order to explore all the sonorities and colors. A scale of height then gradually takes shape. The melodic and timbre games of the beginning gradually move towards the cracking of the wood with more rhythmic and percussive elements. From lively, wild wood, passing through a light and celestial chime, the cello is adorned with multiple woody and lively colors.
