Description

Composed in 1971, French premiere on November 20, 1972 at the Pasdeloup concerts under the direction of Gérard Devos, soloist: Jean-Pierre Rampal.

This concerto is structured on clearly identifiable motifs which reverberate from one movement to the next: the initial Allegro being an "Appassionato" full of thematic and rhythmic sap, the central movement a large serious lied, with subtle and poetic colors, and the finale an aggressive arabesque of virtuosity with well-defined rhythmic impulses, concluding with a coda where the choice is left to the soloist to play either the flute or the piccolo, the latter capable of giving more brilliance and agility to the conclusion of the work.
