Street Music

Virginie ASTER

Street Music is a tribute to the artists who have made the street a space of freedom and creation accessible to all.

This collection for solo violin comprises 10 very short musical pieces, each with a secret message linked to one of the artists who inspired it. The last piece is dedicated to all the artists of the Street Art movement and is also full of messages to decipher.

A recording made by Eva Zavaro and reproductions complete this collection.

Description

A partial and selective collection, Street Music consists of ten pieces for violin, allowing the performer, like an urban artist, to share their music in the street. Each piece lasts between one and two minutes, much like the original graffiti piece, for which the artist had only brief moments before being apprehended.

The first nine pieces are intrinsically dedicated to the nine street artists who inspired them: Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Invader, Jef Aérosol, JonOne, Miss.Tic, Obey, Seen, and Speedy Graphito. Each piece is a subjective musical reflection of the artist's visual art, but each also contains secret codes directly linked to the artist to whom it is dedicated: in music, each letter of the alphabet corresponds to a note, allowing for the inclusion of messages…
