Description
Creator, among other things, of Prokofiev's 1st cello concerto and a leading chamber musician, notably within an unforgettable trio formed with Hephzibah and Yehudi Menuhin, Maurice Gendron (1920-1990) was a Master, who, through his internationally recognized talent, added his singular "voice" to other legendary figures of the French cello school, such as André Navarra, Pierre Fournier or Paul Tortelier.
His keen interest in creation, as well as his research into composers of the past, left a great mark, as also evidenced by his interpretation and edition in 1954 of Haydn's Concerto in D major in the original version, as well as the publication of Davidoff's first Concerto op. 5 under his supervision by Éditions Billaudot.
Today, we have six previously unpublished transcriptions for cello and piano made by Maurice Gendron in the 1960s and 1970s and revised by one of his most brilliant students, Walter Grimmer.
These pieces, finally made accessible to future generations of cellists, will equally enchant listeners who will find in them all the art of phrasing and eloquence, characteristic of this great musician and teacher that was Maurice Gendron.
