Livre pour violoncelle
Danses et méditations, op. 76
Cellists will find in this cycle of 12 pieces energetic compositions and others meditative, as well as two Gregorian Christmas chants.
The music is modal, expressing a range of emotions: intensity, jubilation, cantabile, as well as poetry and delicacy with very soft sonorities, sometimes conversing with silence. A few discreet allusions to Bach's Suites punctuate the score. Furthermore, there are many four-note chords, making the cello sound like an organ.

Description
Cellists will find in this cycle of twelve pieces energetic compositions and others more meditative, as well as two Gregorian Christmas chants. The music is modal and expresses a range of emotions: intensity, jubilation, cantabile, as well as poetry and delicacy with very soft sonorities, sometimes conversing with silence. A few discreet allusions to Bach's Suites punctuate the score. Moreover, there are many four-note chords to make the cello sound like an organ. An organist by training, Jean-Charles Gandrille has long been familiar with the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. In 2020, after several years of studying the cello, the composer began this Book for Cello, a process that spanned a year and a half. This score is intended for the 40th birthday of Gautier Capuçon, whom J.-C. Gandrille particularly admires.
