Description
How can we analyze 20th - century music? In this second volume, Anthony Girard examines musical language after Debussy, highlighting various compositional techniques and offering concise analyses, always based on excerpts from scores. Particular attention has been paid to the quality of the graphic design to facilitate the reading of the musical examples.
After a largely developed chapter on harmony (RAVEL, SCHÖNBERG, BARTÓK, STRAVINSKI, MILHAUD, WEBERN, MESSIAEN...), Anthony GIRARD attempts to explore, still on a reduced scale but by multiplying the angles of view, the different facets of the language, melody, rhythm, research on timbre and certain aspects of form, by proposing accessible tools for music considered difficult to approach, whether it be PROKOFIEV, VARÈSE, BERG, FRANCK MARTIN and BRITTEN or, for the second half of the 20th century, BERIO, OHANA, LIGETI, REICH, MURAIL and LUTOSLAWSKI.
