Description
Commissioned by the Association of Friends of Lily Laskine for the 2005 Lily Laskine International Competition.
In Praise of Shadows for solo harp is defined by a twilight atmosphere supported by subsiding harmonic sequences, all imbued with a muted melancholy. Refusing the ease of an impressionist harp too often reduced to being merely decorative with obligatory clichés of streaming, brilliance and brilliance, I wanted on the contrary for the instrument an intimate, contemplative piece. Even when the writing becomes polyphonic, it remains very refined, because the harp remains the dominant voice, which sings by the grace of the performer's talent.
