Description
These three stories can be interpreted individually or together. They follow the path of a legend linked to the siege of La Rochelle in 1627-1628. Appel evokes the sailors of Hendaye who set sail and put out to sea to support the French ships. The Black Angel is a peaceful tale—the wind stops blowing and the ships are stopped—while the sailors pray to the Virgin for a favorable wind to allow them to avoid the enemy attack. Epopée is inspired by the tumultuous world of maritime wars and the hope that the Virgin gave to the combatants.
