Description
Head First is a piece composed for a piano and a mini drum kit. It's mainly missing a bass drum.
With the indication at the beginning "Very rhythmic, with groove, quite rock!", everything is said.
It's percussion played like a drum kit: demanding tempo, respecting rhythms, well-defined accents and ghost notes, polyrhythms, and dialogue with the piano. And of course, flams, ras, and rolls to progress technically and tame the snare drum.
One piece of advice: first, use your head, because rhythm, tempo, and therefore polyrhythm, are mathematics!
Finally, the piano part is essential. It's not accompaniment. It's a duet.
Loops to spin without moderation.
Work composed for the PerKu en Herbe 2017 competition.
