Pavane
Fernande Decruck composed Pavane in 1933 for the saxophone quartet of the Republican Guard, then created a different version for the clarinet quartet. In 1949, she wrote two more versions, one for a reed trio, the other for oboe or violin and piano. While all these versions highlight the composer's melancholic bent, which uses the same sad melody, they nevertheless differ slightly from each other in their length and harmonic content. But the three minutes of Pavane are enough to perfectly illustrate the composer's singular genius.
