Description
The plucked strings of the harpsichord offer a very tempting playground for the guitarist since they allow him, especially through the duo, to penetrate an immense repertoire in the field of baroque music, from Scarlatti to Handel, via Johann Sebastian Bach.
The transcription of this French Suite No. 3 is a vivid illustration of the possibilities of the guitar duo, both in terms of polyphony and rhythm, as well as ornamentation.
Composed at the end of his stay at the court of Cöthen, from 1717 to 1723, a period during which Bach devoted himself to secular instrumental music, this suite, taken from the "6 French suites", betrays the influence that French harpsichordists were able to exert on the German Kapellmeister.
