Description
The 12 Préludes constitute Ihor Shamo's most imposing cycle, both in terms of its length, its richness, and its expressiveness. The order follows the circle of fifths, in the manner of Chopin, Scriabin, or Shostakovich. It is surprising that the cycle stops in the middle, addressing only the first twelve keys, as if the other twelve were to follow... However, even though the 1964 edition is described as the "first book," according to the accounts of Tamara Shamo and Yevhen Stankovytch, Ihor Shamo had not intended to complete it.
