Inspired by Juan Ramón Jiménez's poem "El Viaje desfinitivo," the composer, struck by the musicality of the first verse, translated it into musical notation. This phrase, which opens the piece, recurs throughout the structure and, towards the end, undergoes a diminution symbolizing this disappearance with the note B, the polar note of the piece.
