Interspaces
The Interspaces may be performed on their own or within the cycle*. The composer give performers the freedom to include them all or not, to repeat one or several, and to choose their own order. That sense of freedom is at the core of the project.
They are dedicated to Yan Levionnois and Léa Hennino, whose collaboration was essential in the creation of this cycle.
*Since 2020, Camille Pépin have been creating a cycle for viola, cello, and piano entitled All-over, inspired by the work of painter Jackson Pollock.

Description
The three central pieces (Gris-brume for cello and piano (2020), Au Cœur de la Terre for viola and piano (2022) and Number 1 for piano (2020)) draw from All-over No.14, No. 13A, and No. 12 of Jackson Pollock.
To connect them and dive deeper into Pollock's abstract world, Camille Pépin imagined seven Interspaces for viola and cello. They evoke that moment during an exhibition when we leave one painting behind and begin moving toward the next. The second starts to affect us, even as we're still under the impression of the first - and suddenly, we're right at the heart of the artist's universe.
It is this suspended moment - this in-between space - that sparked her imagination for these miniatures. Rooted in a web of contemplation and resonance, they explore sounds and materials drawn from the cycle 's larger works. These elements occasionally overlap and entangle, like the strands of paint across Pollock's canvases.
Each Interspace is both a memory - what remains of one work - and an impulse toward another: a new canvas, a new piece.
